2019 EYOF: 6 finals for our Juniors!

The 2019 European Youth Olympic Festival started yesterday for our gymnasts in Baku (Azerbaidjan) with the men's qualifications, while the girls competed today for spots in the finals. They all did an amazing job, qualifying for 6 finals.


On Tuesday, Victor Martinez and the twins Nicola and Glen Cuyle competed in the 2nd subdivision (out of 3). Despite a few mistakes, they managed to score 153.400 and placed 10th in the team final. The gold went to Ukraine (163.950, ahead of Russia (163.100) a,d Italy (159.183).

Our boys also qualified for 3 individual finals. Nicola Cuyle and Victor Martinez both qualified for the all-around final, as they scored 77.000 and 76.400 to place 17th and 24th respectively. In addition to that, Victor also qualified for the vault final in 5th place with a score of 13.600.

Today, Charlotte Beydts, Margaux Dandois and Jutta Verkest competed in the 4th and final subdivision where they started on beam. All three of them fell, but Margaux got the highest score with 12.200. 

On floor, Jutta delivered a strong performance to score 12.350. On vault, it's Charlotte who got the highest score for her full twisting Yurchenko (13.200). They finish strong on bars, as both Jutta (13.000) and Margaux (12.600) qualified for the uneven bars final.

As a team, the girls scored 99.000 and placed 6th. The gold went to Russia (108.050), ahead of Romania (106.800) and Great Britain (103.850). 

Individually, the Belgian girls qualified for three finals, same as the boys: Jutta will be in the all-around final thanks to her 49.050 total from qualifications, as well as in the bars final, where she'll be joined by Margaux. Margaux is also 1st reserve for the all-around final (47.950). Charlotte placed 38th with 46.950.

The all-around finals will be held tomorrow at 10:00 for the boys and 14:00 for the girls. The event finals will take place on Friday and Saturday, starting at noon on both days.

As for now, the coverage has been really poor and we don't know yet if and where the finals will be broadcasted. We'll keep you posted!
