2023 World Championships: 2 tickets for the Olympics for Belgian men.

Saturday september 30th, the World Championships started in Antwerp with the qualifications for men. The Belgian team was aiming for a spot in the top 12 and an Olympic team qualification. They finished 15th, missing the team tickets for Paris with only 0.368 points. The 15th place comes with a ticket for an all-around gymnast at the Paris olympics. Luka Van den Keybus also secured his ticket for Paris.

The Belgian team started very strong on parallel bars with 4 scores above 14.00. Maxime Gentges opened the competition for Team Belgium with a score of 14.066. Luka Vanden Keybus added 14.366 and Noah Kuavita 14.333. Nicola Cuyle closed the rotation with 14.166. This was a dream start of the competition and the Belgian fans went crazy.

On high bar Luka topped the team's ranking with a 13.233. Maxime fell on one of his release elements and scored 12.033. Noah probably did the best routine of his life but got a bit too rushed and made an error at the end of his routine. He dismounted with an impressive tripple piked summersault for a score of 13.033. Glen Cuyle performed a solid and clean routine and added a 12.500 to the team total.

On floor Luka opened with an impressive double piked front summersault and finished with a tripple twist. He scored 13.933. Maxime started his routine with a double arabian. He was less secure in his receptions throughout and scored 13.233. Noah was rewarded with a score of 13.666 while Glen brought in a 13.733 with a routine that included a double piked front, half in half out and double arabian.

His twinbrother Nicola was first up on pommel horse. He showed a clean routine that scored 13.366. Maxime hoped to bring in a big score on pommels, as the European vice-champion. Unfortunately he fell and scored 12.700. The Belgian fans were all behind Luka on pommel horse. He battled but made a mistake on his dismount. He scored 12.066. Noah kept his head cool and added 12.533 to the team total.

Luka was the first to go on still rings. He scored 12.800. Maxime got 13.266 for his routine. Nicola received a score of 13.833 and Glen was rewarded with a  14.133 for his routine.

The Belgian men closed their competition on vault. Both Noah and Luka scored 14.400. Noah did a handspring double front and Luka a yourchenko with two and a half twist. Glen also performed a handspring double front but stumbled out of it. He scored 13.500. Nicola added a half twist to the same vault and scored 13.000.

The team totalised 245.094 and finished 15th. They have never been closer to Olympic team qualification. The battle for the team spots at the Paris Olympics was close. Very close. The difference between the Netherlands, finishing 11th and Israel, that finished 16th was less than a point. With this 15th place team Belgium secures a non-nominative individual ticket for the Paris Olympics.

The Japanese team ruled these qualifications by topping the team standings and taking the top 3 spots in the All-around qualifications. Current world champion Daiki Hashimoto finished third behind his teammates Kenta Chiba and Kazuma Kaya. The Japanese federation already confirmed Hashimoto will nevertheless compete in the all-around final. Luka Van den Keybus finished 29th with a score of 80.798 and is third reserve for the all aroundfinal. The best news however comes last: he secures an individual ticket for the 2024 Olympic Games.
