NINA DERWAEL IS OLYMPIC CHAMPION

On August 1st, Nina Derwael was in the uneven bars final. Cited among the favourites alongside new Olympic all-around champion Sunisa Lee, Nina came on top in this final and became the first belgian gymnast to win an Olympic title !

Nina was the first qualifier coming into this final. As the two time World and European Champion, she was dubbed one of the favourites, alongside Sunisa Lee, who matched Derwael's score in the team final.

But not everything came according to plan for Lee who broke connections and hit the ground with her feet on her pak salto. With 14,500, she still managed to win the bronze medal. After that, no one was really a match to Derwael, who once again delivered under pressure to score 15,200 to win the gold medal and become an Olympic champion! The silver was awarded to ROC's Anastasia Iliankova (14,833).
