2024 Olympic Games women's qualifications: uneven bars final for Nina Derwael

 Sunday the women took the floor for their qualifications. Nina Derwael and Maellyse Brassart competed for Team Belgium. Nina qualified for the uneven bars final next sunday. 

Nina started her competition on balance beam. Unfortunately she fell on her layout mount. The rest of her routine was solid and included a tripple wolf turn, free walkover and two flips to lay-out. She scored 12.766. Maellyse mounted the beam with a switch leap. She was a bit wobbly throughout and fell on her acrobatic serie. She scored 11.600.

Maellyse came back with a solid floor routine. She opened with a double piked summersault and dismounted with a  double tucked with a small hop. She showed clean leaps and was rewarded with a score of 12.533. On vault she scored 13.300 for her yourchenko with full twist. 

Maellyse had a very scary fall during her warm-up. She nevertheless competed flawlessly and scored 13.766. Nina kept her head cool and showed a solid routine that scored 14.733. She lost a few tenths in execution but will surely work hard to avoid them during the final on sunday.

Maellyse's all-around total of 51.199 put her in 37th place. 

Simone Biles took the lead in the all-around competition with a score of 59.566 ahead of Brazilian Rebecca Andrade and teammate Sunisa Lee.

The American team dominated the qualifications. Italy finished second and China third. They will compete in the team final alongside Brazil, Japan, Canada, Great Britain and Romania. The French gymnasts unfortunately succumbed to the pressure and did not qualify for a single final.
