2022 European Championships: 5th place for Belgium in the team final
Today the European team champions were crowned. Team Belgium, represented by Lisa Vaelen, Noémie Louon, Fien Enghels, Jutta Verkest and Maellyse Brassart qualified in 5th place.
The Belgian team started its competition on balance beam together with the team from the Netherlands. Noémie Louon opened the game with a routine including a solid layout mount, a backhandspring lay out step out and a free walkover. She scored 12,833. Next up was Lisa Vaelen who had little checks here and a fall on her front tuck. She also performed a backhandspring back tuck combination, a double spin and a double twist dismount. She scored 11,833. Jutta Verkest was the last Belgian to compete on balance beam. With just a little wobble on her switch ring leap, she added 12,933 to the team total.
On floor Jutta was the first one to go. She performed playfully and showed a nice switch ring leap and a double pike but had some troubles on the landings (12,300). Maellyse Brassart was next up. She showed a full twisting double back and a gracefull choreography, though she went out of bounds on her double pike. She scored 12,566. The last Belgian gymnast to take the floor was Lisa Vaelen. She showed a skyhigh full twisting double back and a stuck double Arabian for 13,100.
On vault, Jutta competed a full twisting Yurchenko and received 13,000. Maellyse did the same vault but went out of bound to score 12,933. Lisa Vaelen, who qualified for the vault final on Sunday, competed a handspring with one and a half twist. She brought in a 14,200 to the team total.
The Belgian team finished its competition on bars. Maellyse was first up. She showed a piked Jaeger and a toe shoot front tuck with half turn dismount (13,133). Fien Enghels was next. She unfortunately fell on her stalder to Tkatchev. She scored 12,633. Lisa Vaelen finished the competition for the team on a high note with a solid routine (14,066).
Team Belgium totalized 155,530 and finished in 5th, the objective they had set for themselves.
The Italian team was once again outstanding and truly no match for other teams. They won the gold medal with a score of 165,163 and showed they are medal contenders at World Championships in Liverpool later this year.
Great Britain won the silver medal and Germany the bronze, with Kim Bui earning herself a standing ovation for the last team competition of her career.

Tomorrow is already the last day of the women's competition, with the apparatus finals. Lisa Vaelen will compete in the vault final.
