The European Championships selection process is known!

The road to Tokyo starts now for Team Belgium, as the selection process for the 2018 European Championships has been published!

On the WAG side, it's 13 Juniors and 7 Seniors who are in contention to make the 5-spots teams for the European Championships that will be held in Glasgow (2-5 August).

The selection already started last week for the Seniors, with an internal test. The gymnasts pre-selected are :
- Maellyse Brassart (2001 - GymFed/Gym Passion Herseaux)
- Senna Deriks (2000 - GymFed/Gymgroep AS)
- Nina Derwael (2000 - GymFed/TK Sta Paraat-P.H.H. Hasselt vzw)
- Axelle Klinckaert (2000 - GymFed/GymMax)
- Rune Hermans (1999 - GymFed/Gym Haacht)
- Julie Meyers (2000 - GymFed/TK Sta Paraat-P.H.H. Hasselt vzw)
- Dorien Motten (1991 - GymFed/OTV Nazareth)

Rune, Nina and Axelle already got selected to compete at the Doha World Cup next month. Belgium is also expected to compete as a team in Stuttgart in March and in Rotterdam later this year.

In Glasgow, the goal will be to place in the top 8, as well as reaching 3 apparatus finals, a goal that is within reach for this talented team. There will be no all-around competition for the Seniors this year.

The road towards Euros start tomorrow for the Juniors with the first test scheduled in Ghent. Here are the gymnasts in contention:

For the Juniors, the goal in Glasgow will be to place in the top 8 as a team, to qualify for 2 event finals and to place two gymnasts among the 24 best all-arounders.

On the MAG side, 16 Juniors and 10 Seniors will compete to make the European Championships team. Euros will also be held in Glasgow from August 9-12.

The Juniors concerned by this selection process are:

Their selection process won't begin before May. In Glasgow, the main goal will be a top 8 finish as a team, but also to qualify 2 gymnasts for the all-around final and at least for 1 apparatus final.

The 10 Seniors are:

- Maxime Gentges (1995 - FfG/GC Malmedy)
- Dennis Goossens (1993 - GymFed/Turnkring Kerels Waasmunster)
- Daan Kenis (1994 - GymFed/Gym Mol)
- Noah Kuavita (1999 - GymFed/Silok Deurne)
- Florian Landuyt (1996 - GymFed/Sportac Deinze)
- Takumi Onoshima (1999 - FfG/Athanor Gym Club)
- Luka Van den Keybus (1997 - GymFed/GymTeam Sint-Niklaas)
- Jimmy Verbaeys (1993 - GymFed/Blauwput Omnisport)
- Jonathan Vrolix (1996 - GymFed/Olympia Houthalen)

Their selection process start in a bit more than two weeks, with a test that will determine which gymnasts will be send to the Stuttgart World Cup. Takumi Onoshima, Noah Kuavita and Dennis Goossens will also compete at the Doha World Cup. At the European Championships, the goal is a top 12 as a team and to qualify for at least one event final. As for the girls, there will be no all-around competition this year for the Seniors.

In addition to Europeans, the following MAG Juniors will also be in contention for a spot at the Youth Olympic Games to be held in Buenos Aires (Argentina) in October:

The first two selection process will be the same as for the European Championships. After those two tests, the two best all-arounders will compete against each other in another test in Baku in June. The winner will earn the spot for the YOG.
