Dennis Goossens and Stacy Bertrandt retire

Olympic finalist Dennis Goossens and youngster Stacy Bertrandt both retired last month.

Dennis Goossens wrote history for Team Belgium at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, as the first Belgian gymnast to qualify for an olympic apparatus final. Before entering the topsport centre in Ghent, he trained in his club TK Kerels Waasmunster. He competed at the World Championships in Antwerp in 2013 and finished 12th on still rings.

The highlight of his career was in 2016 when he first placed 6th in the rings final at the European Championships in Bern and then qualified for the rings final at the Olympic Games in Rio, where he finished 8th.

Dennis was part of the Belgian team that was 12th at the European Championships in Glasgow in 2018, where he once again reached the rings final (7th). Later that year he also took the 19th place with his team at the World Championships in Doha. Now he will focus on getting his masters degree while starting his first job.

Stacy Bertrandt started gymnastics in Varsenare under the guidance of An Verkindere and Filine Verheire. She was selected to train in the Topsportcentre in Ghent.

In 2017 she won the Belgian junior title and finished 5th at the Flanders International Team Challenge.  She was part of the team that finished 6th at the European junior championships in Glasgow in 2018.

2019 started well for Stacy and the Juniors. They finished 3rd at the prestigious Jesolo Trophy in Italy and 2nd at the International Gymnix in Canada. Stacy was part of the Belgian team that finished 5th at the first World Junior Championships in Gyor. She was the best Belgian gymnast in the all-around standings (9th). She qualified for the uneven bars final and finished 7th. She only competed once as a senior in 2020. She finished 9th at the Gymnix International in Montreal last March.

We wish Dennis and Stacy all the best for the future!
