2024 European championships: Qualifications senior men

This morning the European championships started in Rimini. The Baloise Belgym team competed in the first of 3 subdivisions. They aimed to match their top 8 ranking from the previous year but ultimately finished 14th.

The team composed of Victor Martinez, Maxime Gentges, Luka Vanden Keybus and Noah Kuavita started its competition on pommel horse. It was a difficult start with different falls. Maxime scored 12.800, the highest score for the team but not enough for a place in the apparatus final. Noah added 12.700 and Luka 12.266 to the team total. Nicola Cuyle competed as an individual athlete on pommel horse and scored 10.833.

On rings Glen Cuyle showed a strong routine with a tripple back dismount. He scored 14.500 and is second reserve for the apparatus final. Maxime scores 13.000 and Luka 12.900. The team had a strong rotation on vault. Victor stuck his tsukahara with 2 and a half twist and scored of 14.566. Noah received the same score for his stuck handspring double front. Glen added a 14.133 to the team total with another handspring double front. 

On parallel bars Noah and Luka both scored 14.200, while Glen completed the team total with a 13.500. Twin brother Nicola competed as an individual on parallel bars but fell and scored 11.433. On high bar, things got complicated again with several falls. Luka brought in the highest score with 12.833. Maxime added 12.433 to the team total and Noah 12.200. Victor scored 12.066.

The team finished strong on floor. Noah  scored 13,666,  Luka 13,600 and Victor 13,433. 

The team hoped to score 247 but totalised 241.529. They finished 14th in the team competition.

Ukraine topped the team qualifications with a score of 253.661. They will compete in the team final on sunday alongside the teams from Great-Britain, Spain, Italy, Turkiye, Israel and Cyprus. 

These qualifications also served as all-around competition for the men. Cyprus' Marios Georgiou won the gold medal, ahead of Ukranian Oleg Verniaev. Yumin Abbadini won the bronze medal. Luka Vanden Keybus finished 32nd and Victor Martinez 68th.
