2022 European Championships: Men's qualifications and all-around final

Today was the first day of competition for our Senior gymnasts at the 2022 European Championships in Munich. Today served as qualifier for Saturday's team final and Sunday's event finals.

Our Senior team was represented by twins Nicola and Glen Cuyle, Luka Van den Keybus, Noah Kuavita and Takumi Onoshima. Onoshima is the last minute replacement after Victor Martinez sustained an injury during podium training. Their goal today is to place in the top 13 and qualify for the World Championships in Liverpool.

They started on floor, where Takumi got the highest score for the team with a 13,866. Nicola and Glen had good routines with no major mistakes to score 12,733 and 12,100 respectively, while Luka had to count a fall (12,500).

Pommel horse has not always been on Belgium's side in the past and today wasn't an exception. Noah had the best result with a 13,233. Luka had multiple mistakes and only got a 10,900. Nicola was clean overall (12,900), while Takumi didn't count any mistakes but lacked difficulty, as he comes back from injury (11,166).

On rings, the scores were a 12,766 for Luka, a 13,133 for Takumi, 13,333 for Glen and 12,266 for Noah, who had a little mistake at the end of his routine.

Things are looking better on vault with a 13,966 for Takumi. Even though Glen and Luka went out of bounds with their front handspring double front and Yurchenko two and a half twist, they managed to score above 14 with a 14,233 for Glen and 14,066 for Luka. But the real highlight of this rotation was Noah's front handspring double front, which he almost stuck (14,500). Pretty amazing when you recall he ruptured his achilles tendon last fall!

On parallel bars, Nicola Cuyle got a 13,033, while Luka got 13,500. Amazing routine from Noah, who got a 14,000. Lastly, Takumi scores 13,533 for the team.

They finished strong on high bar. Once again, Noah Kuavita delivered a stellar routine with a layout Kovacs and a triple pike dismount (14,066). Thanks to this routine, he qualified for the final on Sunday! Takumi Onoshima was once again impressive. The late addition to the team scored 13,733 for a really clean routine. Luka added 13,466 to the team total, while Nicola scored 12,233.

With 240,727, Belgium is 12th and qualifies for the World Championships!

The following teams qualified for the upcoming World Championships in Liverpool : Great Britain, Turkey, Spain, Italy, France, Switzerland, Germany, Hungary, Ukraine, Romania, The Netherlands, Belgium and Austria. The first 8 of this list will advance to the European team final on Saturday.
