2023 World Junior Championships: All-around finals

On this last day of march, the all-aroundfinals were disputed at the World Junior Championships. Yelena Devreker and Hanne Degryse defended the Belgian colours. 

Yelena started her competition on balance beam and scored a solid 12.233. Hanne started on floor. She opened with a double pike. She had some troubles controlling her receptions but was a joy to watch. The judges rewarded her with a score of  12.100 for her playful choreography. 

On vault Hanne received 11.566. Yelena moved on to floor and scored 11.366. On vault Yelena performed a full twisting yourchenko with a big step on the landing for a score of 12.766. Hanne  had a difficult time on uneven bars and scored 9.233. On beam she added 10.666 to her total. Hanne finished 23th with 43.565 Yelena concluded her all-around final on the uneven bars with a 12.300. Her total score of 48.665 brought her in an excellent 11th position.  

The Japanese girls Haruka Nakamura and Sara Yamaguchi finished first and second. Catarina Gaddi from Italy won the bronze medal.

On the mens side Chinese Guohan Qin won the gold medal ahead of top qualifier Angel Barajas from Colombia. Riccardo Villa added another bronze medal for team Italy.

Saturday and sunday the apparatus finals will be held. Hanne Degryse is the second reserve on floor exercise, there's a small chance she might compete. We'll keep you posted when she does.
