Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games : Nina Derwael 6th and Jutta Verkest 23rd in the AA final

On July 29th, Nina Derwael and Jutta Verkest competed in the all-around final at the Olympic Games ! It's the first time two Belgian gymnasts are in the finals. Nina broke another record, placing 6th, while Jutta was 23rd in her first major final.

In the absence of Simone Biles, who had to withdraw because of health struggles, a new Olympic Champion was crowned. Nina was in the first group and started on vault, while Jutta started on floor. Nina got her best score on bars, with 15,266 points, proving once again she's one of the best gymnasts on this event. She was strong on all events, getting a total points of 55,965 and a 6th place finish!

Jutta was the youngest competitor there and did a stellar job in qualifications and team final. Probably a bit tired, she had some mistakes on bars but scored well overall, with 51,232 points to place 23rd.

The battle for gold was open in the absence of Biles. It came down to the very last event, between American Sunisa Lee, Rebeca Andrade of Brazil, and ROC's Angelina Melnikova.

In the end, Lee came on top with a 57,433 points and is the new Olympic all-around champion! She's the 5th American in a row to win the title after Carly Patterson (2004), Nastia Liukin (2008), Gabrielle Douglas (2012) and Simone Biles (2016).
