2022 World Championships: All you need to know.

Liverpool is hosting the 2022 World Gymnastics championships from october 29 to november 6. Team Belgium is represented by Nina Derwael, Lisa Vaelen, Maellyse Brassart, Jutta Verkest and Yléa Tollet on the women's side and by Noah Kuavita, Luka Van den Keybus, Maxime Gentges and Takumi Onoshima on the men's side.

These World Championships are qualifying competitions for both the World Championships in Antwerp in 2023 and the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Teams finishing in the top 8 during the qualifications, are qualified for the Antwerp Worlds.  The teams winning the medals in Liverpool earn guaranteed spots for the Paris Olympic Games in 2024.

The Belgian women take the stage at the very first subdivision of these World Championships. Their competition starts at 21.00 on saturday october 29. The Belgian women's team hopes to qualify in the top 8 and advance to the Team final on tuesday. Individually all eyes are on Nina Derwael who is making her comeback to international competition. She will compete on uneven bars and beam and hopes to qualify for the apparatus finals. Lisa Vaelen hopes to qualify for the vault and all-around final. Yléa Tollet is replacing Noémie Louon who got injured during the podium training. Apart from Yléa this is a very experienced team as olympians Maellyse Brassart and Jutta Verkest complete the team. They can qualify for the all-around final if they compete all-around.

The Belgian men will compete on monday evening. Their qualifying competition starts at 22:00 Belgian time.  All 4 men have the potential to qualify for individual finals, as did Luka Van den Keybus  and Noah Kuavita, last year.
