2022 World Championships: Bronze medal for Nina Derwael on uneven bars

Today november 5th was the first day of apparatus finals at the World Championships in Liverpool.

Nina Derwael won the bronze medal on uneven bars while Lisa Vaelen finished 6th in the vault final.

Lisa Vaelen qualified in 8th place for her first World Championship apparatus final. With a score of 14.266 for her handspring rudy and a 13.200 for her tsukahara with full twist. Lisa's first vault is world class. To fight for the medals, she will need a more difficult second vault. A step by step process where safety should always have priority. Lisa had a taste of a world championships final and is certainly up to more of that.

Americans Jade Carey and Jordan Chiles won gold and silver. Chiles showed exquisite execution but Careys vaults were more difficult. French Colline Devillard won the bronze medal.

Nina Derwael was the 6th gymnast to compete in the uneven bars final. Amarican Shilese Jones had set the bar high with an excellent score of 14.766. Nina showed a good routine packed with difficult combinations. The judges rewarded her with a 6.3 difficulty score, not the 6.5 she might have hoped for.

The reigning world champion Xiaoyuan Wei  from China showed a stunning routine with intricate inbar stalder work. She won the gold medal with a score of 14.966. Her teammate Rui Luo, the leader after the qualification, touched the bar with her feet on her layout yaegher and was out of the medal hunt.
