2023 European championships: Qualifications and team final men.

 Tuesday april 11th the European championships in Antalya started with the men's qualifications and team final. The Belgian men did a very good job and ended 8 th. They secured their spot for the Antwerp world championships. On top of that they qualified for 3 individual finals.

Maxime Gentges opened the competition for the Baloise Team Belgym on parallel bars with a solid routine that scored 13.966. Noah Kuavita scored 13.800 while Luka Van den Keybus and Victor Martinez both scored 13.566.  Solid start for the Belgian team.

On high bar Luka was the first gymnast to go. He scored 12.800. Victor stuck his dismount and received a score of 12.866. Maxime added a 13.500 to the team total. Noah had some trouble on his dismount and scored 12.366. His score was dropped for the team total. 

On floor Victor sat down one of his tumble passes and scored 12.466. Maxime delivered a solid routine that scored 13.000. Luka received 13.633, the highest score for the team on floor. Takumi Onoshima opened his European championship on floor. His scored of 13.500 was added to the team total. 

The team then moved on to the pommel horse, an apparatus that often gave them a hard time in the past. Not this time. The 4 Belgian gymnasts managed to stay on the horse and were delighted. Victor opened with a decent 12.866. Maxime performed strongly and scored an excellent 14.166. He qualified for the Pommel horse final on saturday.  Luka had the hardest time to stay on the horse but he did and received a score of 12.366. Takumi closed the pommel horse rotation with a score of 13.200. 

On rings Victor received the highest score of the team: 13.300. Maxime had to count a fall. His score of 11.833 was dropped. Luka  scored 13.000 for his routine. Takumi one again closed the rotation for the team. This time he added 13.166 to the total.

On still rings Glen Cuyle competed as an individual gymnast for Belgium. Unfortunately he had some trouble controling his dismount. The rest of his routine was impressive. He scored 13.466. 

The Baloise Team Belgym closed it's qualification round on vault. Noah got 14.433 for his handspring double front. Takumi scored 13.833. Victor received the highest score on vault for the team: 14.466. Luka sat down his vault and his score was dropped. 

The Belgian team scored 243.128. That's almost 6 points more than they did at the World Championships in Liverpool. It's a delight to see them perform to their true potential at a big competition. 

Italy won the team gold medal with a total score of 249.193.  Turkiye won the silver and Great Britain the bronze medal.

Individually Victor Martinez scored 79.53 and Luka Van den Keybus  78.632. They both qualify for the all-aroundfinal on thursday. Ukranian Illia Kovtun takes the lead after the qualifications with a score of 85.432. Turkiyes Adem Asil was second and Jake Jarman from Great Britain third.
