European championships 2023: All-around final women

 Friday april 14th the all-around final for women was held at the European championships in Antalya. Lisa Vaelen and Maellyse Brassart wrote history and finished 4th and 5th. This is the first time 2 Belgian girls finish in the top 5 at a European all Around final. 

Lisa started her competition on vault with a solid rudi. She scored 14.333, the highest score on vault. Maelysse started on floor with a full in, and a double pike. She had to make some adjustments on her receptions and scored 12.466.

On bars Lisa showed a good routine which scored 13.700. Maellyse showed a clean and high full twisting yourchenko with a hop on the landing. She was rewarded with 13.333. 

Lisa showed some very solid work on balance beam. She scored 12.933. Maellyse scored 13.666 for a strong uneven bars routine that ended with a double front dismount with a half turn. 

Lisa closed this all-around final with a playfull floor routine that included a high double arabian and a full-in. Maellyse started her beam routine halfway Lisa's floor. She showed a very strong and solid routine that got her a score of 13.400. Lisa scored 13.133 for her last apparatus.

Lisa finished on a historical 4th place with a total score of 54.099. Maellyse finished just behind her on a marvelous 5th place with a score of 52.865. She was not on the top of her game during the qualifications but showed the world today what she's capable of. 

Jessica Gadirova from Great-Britain won the gold medal. Zsofia Kovacs was in the lead after the third rotation, but ended up 2nd in the end. Italy's Alice D'Amato won the bronze medal.

Tomorrow the first day of apparatus finals starts at 12:30 with the men's floor exercise final. Lisa Vaelen qualified for the vault and uneven bars final. We will see  Maxime Gentges in the pommel horse final.
