EC2023: qualifications and team final women

Wednesday april 12, the female gymnasts took the floor in Antalya. The team finished 7th and qualified for the World Championships in Antwerp. The ladies also qualified for 5 individual finals.

The team started it's competition on vault. Jutta Verkest opened the competition with a solid full twisting yourchenko. She scored 13.100. Aberdeen O'Driscoll and Maellyse Brassart performed the same vault and scored 13.133 and 13.333. Lisa Vaelen crashed badly during warm-up but was able to recover well during the competition. She added a 14.166 to the team total for her Rudi vault. Her full twisting tsukahara was rewarded with a score of 13.066. The average of 13.616 puts her on the 2nd  place in the vault qualification.

On bars Jutta started with a solid routine that included an inbar gienger. She scored 13.000. Maellyse had to count a fall but the rest of her routine was performed cleanly. Her score of 12.633 was dropped. Lisa also went cleanly through her exercise with a derwael-fenton, a yaegher and a full in dismount. She scored 14.000 and gets a place in the apparatus final.  Fien Enghels closed the rotation with a well executed routine that scored 13.833. She's the first reserve for the final.

On beam the Belgian team had a hard time. Jutta had to wait quite a while before the start of her routine. The judges were still working on the score of the previous gymnast on balance beam. She fell on her layout and slipped of the beam on her switch ring leap. The rest of her routine was pretty solid but she scored 9.866. Lisa mounted the beam with a tucked front sommersault and showed a front somi on the beam too. Unfortunately she fell on a switch leap with turn. She almost missed her foot on the double tucked dismount but landed it nevertheless nicely. She got 11.466. Fien was the only Belgian girl that stayed on the beam today. She controlled her nerves well and showed a beautifull free carthweel to layout step out combination. She scored 12.833 and qualified for the apparatus final.  Maellyse fell on her roundoff layout to two feet and had to count a few other wobles. Her double piked dismount however was nice. The judges rewarded her with 11.466.

The girls recovered well on floor exercise.  Jutta was first up on floor and showed a good floor exercise that scored 12.300. Aberdeen  on her turn scored 12.833 for a routine that included a one and a half twist back followed by a front full. Maellyse showed a tucked full in and a double pike. She needed a few adjustments on the receptions and scored 12.100. Lisa closed the competition for team Belgium with a 12.866. Her double arabian was skyhigh..

The team of 154.996 puts the team in 7th position. Great-Britain won the gold medal ahead of Italy and the Netherlands.
